Safeguarding
At Lisburne School we have a commitment that safeguarding and promoting the physical and emotional welfare of every pupil, both inside and outside of school, is of the highest priority. We implement a whole-school preventative approach to managing safeguarding concerns, ensuring that the wellbeing of pupils is at the forefront of all action taken.
Samantha Benson, Headteacher and DSL is supported by Gill Levis (DHT), Lizzie Hopkins (AHT) and our team of FLCs and Pathway Leads who are all DSL trained. James Clarke is our safeguarding governor.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children, their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding them and promoting their welfare. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all professionals should make sure their approach is child centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child. We seek to provide an environment within school that will help children to be safe and to feel safe. In our school children are respected and are encouraged to communicate openly. We will ensure children’s wishes and feelings are taken into account when determining what safeguarding action to take and what services to provide.
No single professional can have a full picture of a child’s needs and circumstances. If children and families are to receive the right help at the right time, everyone who comes into contact with them has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information, and taking prompt and restorative action. In line with this understanding, any adult working or volunteering in the school community has a responsibility to recognise when a child or young person may be in need or be vulnerable in some way, and to respond to this recognition in a timely and appropriate way. Staff and volunteers working in our school have a crucial role to play in noticing indicators of possible abuse or neglect and referring them to the correct persons or services for support and intervention. Everyone working or volunteering at this school is trained to recognise signs of concern and in line with this policy, must report concerns following school and local authority procedures. New staff receive training as part of their induction programme and all staff receive regular and robust training and updates in order to have an in depth understanding of current issues to ensure that signs of abuse are quickly identified and responded to appropriately, thus reducing the opportunity for further harm to be caused.
